To increase state revenue TS government hiked TSRTC Student Buss Pass Charges which is double to the existing bus pass charges.
The RTC, which has already hiked fares in the city under the name of rounding up diesel cess and increased ticket prices targeting ordinary travelers, now has targeted students.
Buspass fares have been massively increased. The decision was made suddenly to almost double the existing charges.
In addition to the regular monthly bus passes (GBT) in the city, more and more students are using the Greater Hyderabad Passes, General Quarterly Passes and Greater Hyderabad Quarterly Passes. Demand for Route passes from home to college has grown significantly. It is estimated that the number of students using these different types of passes is over 5 lakh.
These students are currently paying up to Rs 8.5 crore per month to the RTC for bus passes while the latest hike will impose an additional burden over Rs 5 crore. At present, the normal monthly pass is Rs 165, but it is likely to increase to Rs 300 soon. Also, the quarterly pass is expected to increase from Rs 495 to Rs 650. It is noteworthy that the RTC did not make it clear how much the charges would increase on any bus pass.
