Devotees can pay obeisance to Ayyappa Swami during the Mandala Puja on December 26. The ritual begins on November 16 and ends with the mandala puja. Mandala Puja is scheduled to be held on December 26 this year. It is one of the most important pujas in Sabarimala.

After the Mandala Puja, devotees prepare for Makaravilakku or Makarajyoti during the Makar Sankranti at the Sabarimala temple.

The Sabarimala temple has been closed for six months following the implementation of the lockdown in the wake of the corona virus epidemic. The Sabarimala temple was reopened in October for the devotees.

Initially only 1000 devotees were allowed to visit on weekends. About 2000 people were allowed in after that. Authorities have increased the number to 3,000 and have now decided to allow 5,000. The Kerala government, along with the Center, has already indicated that devotees visiting Sabarimala must follow the Kovid-19 guidelines.
